ASM International was founded in Detroit in 1913 and now has more than 160 chapters around the world, with more than 40,000 members in 100 countries. Originally a metals society (American Society of Metals), ASM is now a world-wide association for the exchange of information on all aspects of the materials field. ASM's member journal is Advanced Materials & Processes.
TMS, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, also began as a metals society and now has almost 10,000 members in more than 70 countries around the world. Its mission is "to promote the global science and engineering professions concerned with minerals, metals, and materials." The primary member journal of TMS is JOM.
ACerS, The American Ceramic Society, is dedicated to ceramics, providing technical, scientific, and educational information to members working in ceramics and other related materials fields. Membership in ACerS includes subscriptions to the publications Ceramic Bulletin and ceramicSOURCE and discounts on other journal subscriptions.
