About the Materials Engineering Society (MateES) :

The Materials Engineering Society, or MatES, is a student society primarily for Materials Science and Engineering majors at the University of Maryland College Park. MatES is the University of Maryland’s Materials Advantage Student Chapter. It includes recognition by several professional societies including ASM International, The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS), and the American Ceramic Society (ACerS).

Membership in MatES is free, and includes the benefits of lounge use and society social, service, and technical and career development activities. Contact MatES to join today or fill out the MatES membership form and drop it in the folder in CHE1111! New members are always welcome!

Our student run organization is devoted to the advancement of materials science. We improve morale and promote a sense of community by hosting social and networking events, study parties before midterms and finals, and socializing in the lounge. We host monthly general body meetings with informative guest speakers. Some past speakers have been from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Engineering Alumni Association, Study Abroad Office, Career and Co-Op Center, and much more. We have also had visits from recent materials engineering alumni.

Please refer to our Constitution for more information about our society.
